Here’s an idea i have for a “unity” type of party. A “metaparty” essentially. Our goal is to serve as an alternative to the plurality-based two party system, enabling the current alternative parties, as well as new ones, to function as “sub-parties”. Our “election” is our primary, which uses score voting. Members pledge to support our nominee in the general election, and their dues partly fund our candidate – forming an investment that hopefully makes members less likely to “cheat” in the general election. Presumably our nominees will have a broad appeal that can serve as a viable alternative to the two major parties. Fringe candidates will be very unlikely to win a score voting election with a diverse party membership that runs the gamut from socialist to libertarian. However, every sub-party can affect the nomination outcome, so as to force the nominee to endorse at least some of their special issues. Think of it as a pragmatic compromise to get a real chance of electing a candidate who supports 20% of your policy, as opposed to a 0% chance of getting candidate who supports 99% of your issues. Score voting is shown to be robustly superior to all other feasible alternatives here: http://scorevoting.net/UniqBest.html Also noteworthy is that our party will utilize advanced decision-making algorithms like delegable proxy, as well as methods like Punchscan or 3Ballot, which allow of secure anonymous voting. We advise our candidates to endorse measures for combating problems like fraud and Gerrymandering – but this is not a requirement. The voters decide who we nominate. |
