About Me

I’m a 40-year-old editor for an independent weekly in the Western United States. I love my country, but I’m alarmed at the direction U.S. politics has taken during the past several years.

Still, I’m optimistic that Americans are on the verge of regaining that positive, forward-looking, can-do attitude we’ve held throughout our nation’s history.

Political Beliefs

I advocate individual liberty. The state should never limit the freedom of citizens simply for the sake of protecting them from the consequences of their own decisions. For instance, bars and restaurants whose owners/employees choose to prohibit or permit smoking should be free to do so, since patrons are free to visit the establishments or not, as they see fit.

However, the state should limit behaviors causing actual material harm. For instance, the state should prosecute theft, embezzlement and violent crimes, etc.

Our freedoms are paramount, and the Bill of Rights must be reinvigorated.

Social justice is equally important. People must be free to reach their full potential. Too often, class and corporate concerns thwart individual liberty. By working to actively remove unfair obstacles which society places in the paths of some of its citizens, we can achieve a more just and a freer society.

Interests

Mathematics, journalism, physics, art, literature, music, computer science.

Here's an idea i have for a "unity" type of party. A "metaparty" essentially. Our goal is to serve as an alternative to the plurality-based two party system, enabling the current alternative parties, as well as new ones, to function as "sub-parties". Our...

Freedom is only an illusion. Unless we get involved in the "core" of our government, our government will only superficially give us the freedoms it feels it needs to keep us docile. Even if the government needed to stage numerous parties in debates to feed our thirst they would still...
